At last - TR/19 - A New Standard

At last a new document that will bring understanding and standardisation to the cleaning requirements of newly installed ductwork as well as clear guidance on maintenance of existing ductwork systems.

Ever since its launch in 1998 HVCA TR/17 has been at the forefront of raising awareness and standards in the ductwork cleaning industry; at System Hygienics Ltd we have always been to the fore of these standards and to make “best” practice “normal” practice.

Two years ago TR/17 launched a 2nd edition with tightened cleaning standards for Supply and Extract ductwork and detailed requirements for the cleaning of Kitchen extract ductwork.

Now in 2005 the HVCA have amalgamated TR/17 with TM2 to produce the TR/19, which incorporates the best practice for installing new systems and maintaining them and allows specifiers to deal with all aspects of the duct system in one publication.

The cleaning standard for installing new ductwork is 0.75mg/100cm², which is as clean as you can get, therefore ensuring that when cleaning is specified on a new installation the client is not going to inherit a newly furnished and decorated building with a heavy layer of builders’ dust in his vent system!

Section 2 deals with the Protection, Delivery and Installation standards of new ducting. However at System Hygienics Ltd we can demonstrate that in most cases it is more cost effective for an installer to erect his duct in a normal manner and employ us to clean it than it is to go to a costly and time consuming protection process of bagging off and protecting open ends when on site, which is practically impossible to achieve.

If you would like an engineer to call and go through the implications of the TR/19 do not hesitate to contact us - with six engineers covering England and Scotland there is one not far from wherever you are
